after taking a pummeling when bmw championship competitors loudly bemoaned his 2008 upgrades to cog hill
no. 4, architect rees Jones should be in for a reprieve this week when the tour championship wraps up at east lake
gc. that it was once the home course of the gentlemanly bobby Jones could be a factor, but more likely it will be that
the donald ross design resurrected by Jones in 1995 is a straightforward, eminently fair test that has received solid
marks since becoming the tour championship’s permanent home in 2004. east lake’s subair system also will likely
fare better than its cog hill counterpart, which, along with the famous course designer, was the subject of a barb or
two at the bmw. in the days leading up to last year’s tour championship east lake was deluged with 18 inches of rain,
and but for the techy moisture-management system, there’s no telling how much player grousing there might have
been. bums a week ago, rees and subair should do fine in atlanta. watch the video to see who senior writer tim
rosaforte likes in the tour championship.
