when members of the u.s. ryder cup team
complained their rainsuits were leaking in
wales, the only one seemingly not talking about
it was sun mountain, the makers of the suits.
last week, however, company president rick
reimers broke his silence. speaking with Golf
World, reimers did not place any blame on lisa
pavin (“that is misdirected.”), but he did have
some concerns with the suits. “we thought the
design and the amount of embroidery might
make the garment a little heavier and stiffer,” he
said. “we weren’t originally happy with that
element of the design because the suit is a stretch
garment and that takes some of that away from it.
but there were no concerns about water getting
in.” mostly, reimers came off as a stand-up
guy, accepting responsibility for what hap-
pened, while trying to figure out a cause—in-
cluding sending a person wearing the suit into a
shower for two hours to check for leaks. “boy, i
have no idea [what happened]. … i have no
idea,” reimers said. “what did w.c. fields say?
‘there’s no such thing as good publicity or bad
publicity, there’s just publicity.’ we just have to
wait and see how it works itself out.”
