pga tour // crowne plaza invitational
toms gets first win in five years

� winner david toms opened the crowne plaza invitational with rounds of

62-62 but had to gut out a one-shot win over charlie wi to take his 13th pga tour title and first in five years. toms finished at

15-under 265 after a final-round 67. he last won at the

2006 sony open in hawaii.

�key hole wi led by one to start the final round and maintained that lead through the turn. but toms caught him on the 10th when wi made bogey and took the lead for good on 11 when he holed out from 83 yards for eagle on the 635- yard hole, the only par- 5 on the back nine.

injured tiger woods fell from
eighth to 12th, the first time
since prior to the 1997 mas-
ters that he has been out of
the top 10. … stuart appleby,
who birdied four holes on the
front nine to turn in 31, made

from t- 4 to t-16. … wi, who
is winless on the pga tour,
