adaM sCott’s new Caddie
the tiger woods camp says woods’ long-time caddie, Steve williams,
is doing a friend a favor by working for adam Scott at the U.S. open. but
it’s odd that Scott, the one-time australian whiz kid whose dormant game
resurfaced recently when he nearly won the masters, would want a caddie for just one week. you would think Scott would prefer to get comfortable working with someone for the rest of the season, or at least through
the last three major championships of 2011. for his part, williams doesn’t
need a one-week paycheck. he has made plenty working for woods. but

if tiger is going to shut it down for awhile because of the injuries to his
left leg, then this move makes sense. and what if Scott and williams do
something wonderful at congressional, and Scott gets that first major
title many thought he would have by now? that would complicate things
even more. the next clue in this puzzle will come June 30 when woods is
supposed to tee it up at the at&t national. If he doesn’t show there, one
would have to think playing in the british open, with no full competitive
rounds since the masters, is unlikely. —Ron Sirak
