�gamechanger nick watney had a new putter in play at aronimink gc, a scotty cameron by titleist newport fastback select Xperimental tour prototype. the mid-mallet design worked well for watney, who won the title on the strength of ranking second in putts per round and third in putts per green in regulation. at one point watney had 16 one-putts in a 19-hole stretch.

�fast start after a busy pretournament seeding effort, titleist’s new 712 irons found their way into 19 of 40 bags among players using titleist irons at the at&t national. every player made the switch from the 710 generation of the same model except troy matteson, who had been playing an older generation muscle back (zb/zm) and chose the new cb instead. the player who did best after the switch? nick watney, who won after putting the new ap2 model in play.

3- and 5-woods ( 15 and 18 degrees, respectively). allenby finished t- 6. … u.s. amateur champ peter uihlein made the cut at aronimink after changing to titleist’s 910d3 driver. uihlein averaged 307.3 yards off the tee, ranking 15th.

�maJor designs the golf equipment industry is filled with fine players, but when two engineers from the same company qualify for majors, it is worth noting. ping’s marty Jertson and mike nicolette qualified for the pga championship and u.s. senior open, respectively. Jertson finished t- 5 in the pga professional national championship, and nicolette gained one of two spots in a qualifier for the senior open by shooting 66 at arizona’s arrowhead cc.
