every ryder cup or presidents cup captain knows
that chemistry in a team competition is an all-important ingredient and a particularly elusive one
in a sport dedicated to glorifying the exploits of the
individual. so it should come as little surprise that
good friends, keegan bradley and brendan steele,
were able to win the franklin templeton shootout
by three strokes. “we have the same agent, me and
steely,” said bradley. “we had talked to our agent at
hilton head to try to get in this tournament. he had
won already. i hadn’t won anything, so it was kind of
a long shot at the time. we really wanted to play together, so it’s kind of a fun thing for us. any time you
play in a tournament you want to win, but it would
be fun to win with my good buddy and also i got my
roommate, Jon curran, on the bag.” it’s was curran who spent a few afternoons catching bradley’s
butterfly fastballs as he warmed up for his fenway
park appearance following the pga championship.
“the best part about these events is, it’s cool to get to
meet the guys when they’re relaxed, kind of with their
guards down,” said bradley. “i enjoyed it last week at
chevron too. i got to know tiger a little bit. i’d never
really talked to him. it’s great to be with the guys
when they’re a little bit chilled out.” —Jim Moriarty
