who wants to hit it … shorter? the usga and
r&a have been working on a golf ball project for seven years
and as part of that research, the governing bodies have conducted testing using balls that fly shorter. this past weekend
in sweden, however, offered everyday players a chance to
play with the restrictor-plate balls (said to fly about 8 percent
shorter with the driver). according to one player on site, the
test was conducted in less than ideal conditions (cold and, on
the first day, rain), but the balls performed fairly well, despite
sounding a bit muted. the tester also said officials were “
adamant that none of it meant any new rules were on the way.”

tiger’s tweak, garrigus’ driver, adams’ new boss
open and shut case statistically, tiger woods’ putting has been
decent in 2012, yet one annoying stat
stood out—he ranked 102nd in three-putt avoidance, averaging more than
two three-putts per 72 holes coming into the memorial. feeling part
of the issue was that the face of his
nike method 001 blade putter was a
little bit open, woods had nike techs
bend the flat stick slightly closed
prior to the tournament and woods
had but one three-putt during his win
at muirfield village gc.
never long enough robert
garrigus entered the memorial
third in driving distance, yet still
went through an extensive testing
session with a new taylormade
rocketballz driver ( 8. 5 degrees) to
see if he could pick up some yards.
after a launch monitor session
garrigus deemed the best setup
with the head was a mitsubishi
kai’li shaft and put the club in play
in ohio. although garrigus finished
t-70, he ranked third in distance for
the week at 295.9 yards.
done deal taylormade-adidas

revving things up cobra
puma golf partnered with ferrari spa to develop the ferrari golf
collection—a high-end line of equipment, footwear, apparel and accessories. of interest is the cobra ferrari driver, using aerodynamics from
ferrari. the club is a multimaterial
design based on cobra’s Zl encore
but with changes to the radii along
the perimeter of the face, smoothing
the bottom of the sole and raising
the trailing edge to make the club
more aerodynamically efficient.
