at senior players
he is a businessman now, has been one for years, his serious flirtation with another british open victory in 2008
notwithstanding. greg norman stays busy tending an
empire that includes clothes, real estate, food and wine.
he drinks it all in, professing to be as excited by making
deals as he once was driving the ball far and sure. but
norman, 57, will turn his attention from new ventures to
his old love this week, returning for a rare competitive
appearance at the constellation energy senior players
championship at fox chapel gc in pittsburgh, where his
orthopedic surgeon and good friend dr. Jim bradley is a
member. it will be norman’s first foray on the champions tour in nearly three years and only his 12th career
senior start. norman should provide some needed
buzz to the senior players in its debut on the 1925 seth
raynor/charles banks design. and although he hasn’t
exactly been grinding away on the range in preparation,
don’t be too surprised if norman summons some old
magic. “i do want to play well,” norman said, “and [you]
want to make sure that the people who come out there
to watch you play get a bit of a snapshot of your capabilities. it is all deep-down inside, there’s no question
about it.”—Bill Fields (@BillFields1)
