perry, o’hair
win shootout
sean o’Hair, who hasn’t won a pga tour event
since the 2011 rbc canadian open, concluded
a so-so season on a high note when he and
52-year-old partner Kenny perry (left) topped
a strong field to win the franklin templeton
shootout at tiburon gc in naples, fla., yesterday. the pair finished the 54-hole event at 31
under par, one stroke better than charles Howell
iii and rory sabbatini. when he and o’Hair took
the lead after saturday’s best-ball play (friday’s
format was modified foursomes; sunday’s was
a scramble), perry praised his partner, who had
just two top-10s on tour this year. “i see a breakout year for this kid next year,” said perry, who
won once on the champions tour in 2012. “His
golf swing is beautiful. it’s pretty much point and
shoot.” the 24-year-old event, still unofficially
called “the shark shootout” because greg norman remains the host, featured 24 players with a
combined 183 pga tour wins among them. belly
boys Keegan bradley and brendan steele, last
year’s shootout champions, failed to make much
noise this time. they finished t- 7, along with
2010 champs dustin Johnson and ian poulter.
