choi ‘swings’
taiwan win
it was a pretty good year for na yeon choi,
the 25-year–old from Korea who finished
second to inbee park on the lpga money
list with nearly $2 million. choi won the u.s.
women’s open in July and the season-ending
cme group titleholders. and yesterday she
finished a year in which she competed 29
times worldwide with a victory over teresa
lu on the second playoff hole of the swinging
skirts world ladies masters in taiwan. both
finished the 54-hole event at three-under 213,
and choi won it with a birdie on the second
extra hole. choi, who has seven career lpga
victories and is no. 2 in the rolex rankings
behind yani tseng, donated $30,000 of the
titleholders prize money to the lpga-usga
girls golf program to provide equipment to
young girls taking up the game. tseng, who
won three of the first five lpga events this
year then tailed off badly, was forced to wd
from the event in her homeland because of
elbow and shoulder injuries. swinging skirts,
which had a field of 95 players, is a stop on
both the taiwan lpga and the Korean lpga.
